The Importance of Album Art + Trina & Christina Aguilera Release New Album Covers

Sometimes an often overlooked element of promoting an artist is the artwork that accompanies their CD. A mind-blowing, creative, or provocative album cover can be what makes an album memorable or iconic. The artwork for albums such as Nas' Illmatic or Lil Kim's Hard Core [both of which have been imitated or outright copied by other artists, but we aint gonna name no names] has proven that a CD cover can become as important as the music. Two artists recently released the artwork for their upcoming albums.

whew.
I guess Amazin' is a fitting title for Trina's upcoming release. The self-proclaimed "Baddest Bitch" of hip hop does indeed look amazing on the cover art. Her single Million Dollar Girl featuring Keri Hilson and Diddy is already getting airplay and club spins. Besides Hilson and Diddy, the album features Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Flo Rida, Monica, and more. Amazin' hits stores May 4.

Meanwhile, Christina Aguilera came for the girls when she released the artwork for her upcoming 4th studio album Bionic. Aguilera appears as a human-machine hybrid, keeping with the title, and it slays in my opinion.

The word "Bionic" in the album title is aimed to reflect Christina's ability to "take her range to new levels and use her voice in various ways never heard before."
Contributors to the album include Polow Da Don, Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, Dr. Dre, Le Tigre, Linda Perry, and several others. Should be hot. Bionic is slated for a June 8 release.

What do you think about the importance of imagery when releasing an album? Could an eye-catching album cover influence you to pick up CD you wouldnt look twice at otherwise? Scream at me in the comment section below.
